While it’s hard to introduce ourselves, we will try our best. We are three journalists from Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain. We met at the Lomonosov Moscow State University while doing a course on Russian literature.
During our university days, we felt that we wanted to create something unique. Our first thought was to write a blog. We believed that this would be great training for ourselves as writers, researchers, and content developers.
The challenge
When these ideas started to grow, we realized that we needed a topic. We needed to find an interesting subject that would appeal to us and the audience.
While the three of us are interested in literature, we thought this wasn’t the right path. Many websites specialize in literature. They generally feature classic works, new releases, reviews, and so on.
Then we realized that we had one more thing in common: we all come from the same continent. Yet, we were delighted by the cultural differences between us. It’s surprising how people from countries so close to each other can have such different cultures.
Sometimes, our differences were even greater than they were with students coming from Colombia, the United States, or Argentina.
The solution
One day we finally understood that our differences are exactly what we have in common. Choosing English as the common language, we decided to write our blog. The topic would be “Interesting statistics in Europe”.
We realized that the European culture that travel agencies sell to tourists is only one part of the package. And this is quite a rich package with unique cultural and historical baggage. Thus, with our blog, we want to show the other face of Europe. The one that people can’t see on a 15-day all-inclusive trip.
Making the dream come true
We immediately understood that this project was a great training opportunity. As journalists and writers, we strive to find the most exciting and accurate statistics. We try to present them in the form of engaging content. Our blog is as much informative as it is entertaining.
Who we are?
Juan José Olavalle
Born and raised in Spain, Juan has graduated from Granada University. As a child, he wanted to be a biologist. After graduating from a high school specialized in natural science, his vocation shifted surprisingly.
When he read the book ‘Crime and punishment’, by Fedor Dostoyevsky, he understood that he wanted to study literature. Then, he joined the university and now has a major in Spanish literature.
Giordano Batista
Giordano is a lawyer and a journalist. He graduated from Bologna University. Since he always had a passion for journalism, he decided to study this as a second career.
Although he now works for a law firm in Germany, he regularly writes posts on business law for many renowned publications in Europe.
Thanks to his versatility, he managed to build a successful career.
John Vervloet
Being the most mathematical mind of the group, John was always interested in statistics. He has a master’s degree in mathematics from the King College of London.
He emigrated to England when he was 15 and began his university studies early. After that, he continued his education at the Lomonosov university. When the three members of the group met in Moscow, he was the only one who wasn’t studying literature.
A new opportunity
Finally, we want to invite our readers to join the project. We will gladly take any suggestions and implement the topics that our readers prefer.
We want to present Europe to the world with a new perspective. That’s why we created and managed this blog. We hope to start a community of like-minded people to exchange opinions, present our points of view, share interesting facts, and publish fun statistics. In short, this is a site made by Europeans for every person in the world that wants to discover this continent’s wonders.
